Disney to build first-ever theme park in Abu Dhabi
Disney has officially announced the development of a new theme park resort on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi — its seventh global destination, joining California, Florida, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. The project will be developed in partnership with Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations and entertainment experiences.
Yas Island: A Rising Global Tourism Hub
Yas Island is already home to world-class attractions like Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, and SeaWorld. The arrival of a Disney resort will further elevate its position as a key tourism gateway, linking markets across the Middle East, Africa, India, and Europe. The project promises not just a theme park, but an entirely new resort experience — featuring cutting-edge technology and a modern reinterpretation of the iconic Disney castle.
Strategic Support from the UAE Leadership
Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, attended the signing and emphasized the significance of the project for the UAE’s cultural and economic development. He highlighted that the creative and cultural economy is now a core pillar of the UAE’s diversification strategy, contributing directly to GDP growth in alignment with the National Strategy for Creative Industries.
Disney’s Vision and Miral’s Execution
Disney will lead the creative direction, attraction design, and operational planning of the resort, while Miral will oversee construction and day-to-day management, building on its extensive experience with major destinations in the region.
Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, called the project “a whole new world of imagination,” noting that Abu Dhabi’s global outlook and vision for the future make it the perfect location to reach millions of new families and create magical memories for generations.
