Dubai Airport to reach 124 million passengers by 2032 — transition to Al Maktoum International underway

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is set for record-breaking passenger traffic, with projections showing 124 million travelers by 2032, according to Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.

Record aviation growth

By the end of 2025, DXB is expected to handle 95.3 million passengers, surpassing all previous records and maintaining its title as the world’s busiest international airport for the 11th consecutive year.

Griffiths forecasted that the airport will handle 100 million passengers by 2027, and 115 million by 2031, before the full transition of operations to Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) in 2032.

The next aviation hub: Al Maktoum International Airport

Currently under large-scale expansion, Al Maktoum International (DWC) is set to become one of the greatest airports in the world, Griffiths said.
Engineering teams are now finalising designs, with construction advancing to accommodate the next phase of Dubai’s aviation evolution.

Originally opened in 2010, DWC has been primarily serving cargo, executive, and charter flights, but it will soon become Dubai’s new global aviation gateway, supporting the emirate’s dual-airport strategy.

Griffiths highlighted that Dubai Airshow 2025 will be the largest and most advanced edition yet, featuring innovations in:
