Dubai Expands Marine Transport: Old Dubai Souq and Al Sabkha Stations Open on Dubai Creek
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated two new marine transport stations — Old Dubai Souq and Al Sabkha — along Dubai Creek. The project is part of a broader plan to upgrade marine transport hubs across the city’s key districts.
Preserving Heritage, Enhancing Comfort
The upgrades were designed to preserve the cultural identity of the area while enhancing passenger convenience. Improvements include:
-
a 50% expansion of shaded waiting areas,
-
new retail spaces for abra riders,
-
upgraded lighting and sustainable, eco-friendly berth materials.
Additionally, air-conditioned rest areas have been introduced for wooden abra operators, improving their working environment, comfort, and efficiency.
Part of RTA’s Strategic Plan 2020–2030
The opening of both stations marks a milestone in RTA’s Marine Transport Strategic Plan 2020–2030, which aims to position marine transport as a core mobility mode in Dubai. In the first half of 2025 alone, marine transport usage reached 9.7 million passengers.
Economic Efficiency and Sustainable Growth
The stations were developed simultaneously to accelerate delivery, optimize resources, and maximize financial returns. They are also fully compliant with the Dubai Code for People of Determination, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.
Infrastructure projects like this directly boost the value and attractiveness of Dubai real estate. Enhanced transport connectivity drives demand for properties near Dubai Creek and historic districts.
