Dubai Now Has 893 Air-Conditioned Bus Shelters — RTA Prepares for the Summer Heat
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that 893 air-conditioned bus shelters are now fully operational at 622 locations across the emirate, just in time for the intense summer season.
Summer-Ready and Fully Maintained
Since March 2025, RTA has been conducting an extensive inspection and maintenance campaign, which will continue through the second quarter of the year. The goal is clear: ensure all public-facing shelters remain efficient, safe, and comfortable during the peak heat.
Around-the-Clock Inspections and Fast Response
According to Shaikha Ahmad AlShaikh, Director of Buildings and Facilities at RTA, proactive inspections and servicing are key to preventing malfunctions. Field teams have been visiting shelters during both morning and evening hours to ensure smooth operation, carrying out immediate repairs when needed.
RTA has also tested the digital displays at each shelter, ensuring real-time bus arrival information works properly. In parallel, cleaning and sanitisation patrols have been deployed to maintain high hygiene standards across all shelters.
Feedback Channels Open to the Public
In line with Dubai’s citizen-first approach, RTA encourages commuters to submit suggestions or complaints through the ‘Madinati’ feature on the RTA Dubai app. All feedback is addressed by specialised teams to ensure public satisfaction.
Built for Comfort, Inclusion, and Sustainability
The new shelters comply with the Dubai Universal Design Code, featuring dedicated wheelchair spaces and clear wayfinding signage for accessibility. At the same time, they’re designed to be environmentally friendly — able to withstand Dubai’s extreme temperatures and strong winds, while offering advertising space that integrates with urban sustainability goals.
