Infrastructure Expansion: New Metro Line and Smart Transport

Dubai continues to enhance its transportation network. In December 2024, RTA awarded a contract for the construction of the new Blue Line metro. The project, valued at AED 20.5 billion ($5.6 billion), will span 30 km, including 15.5 km underground and 14.5 km above ground, with 14 new stations. The Blue Line will integrate with the Red and Green Metro lines, providing seamless connectivity to Dubai International Airport and key city districts.

Additionally, RTA plans to expand dedicated bus and taxi lanes in 2025-2026, expected to boost ridership by 10% and reduce bus waiting times by 42%.

Dubai Invests in Autonomous and Sustainable Transport

Beyond conventional public transport, RTA is actively testing autonomous buses and innovative trackless trams, which operate on electric power and use AI-driven lane tracking. These transport solutions will:

  1. Reduce infrastructure development costs
  2. Enable autonomous movement with artificial intelligence
  3. Improve sustainability by lowering emissions
