On July 29th, Abu Dhabi Airports announced the launch of an innovative project called “Biometric Smart Travel” at Zayed Airport, aimed at enhancing traveler experiences and optimizing flight processes while maintaining high aviation security standards.

Key points of the project

Abu Dhabi Airports is collaborating with the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (UAEICP) to implement the Smart Travel biometric project at Zayed Airport. Developed in partnership with artificial intelligence specialists Next 50, the project will be rolled out in three phases.

Improving passenger processing

The new technology automatically authenticates travelers based on existing databases, eliminating the need for pre-registration for departing passengers. This significantly reduces passenger processing times.

Future plans

By 2025, the system is expected to expand to all security points and operational nodes at Zayed Airport, as well as to other airlines. Future plans also include implementing biometric systems in waiting lounges and duty-free outlets.

Project benefits

The “Biometric Smart Travel” project reduces passenger service time from 25 to 7 seconds by integrating ticket and document verification into a single process and reducing reliance on human resources through the use of smart gates for identity checks.

Conclusion

This project aims to enhance the travel experience at Zayed Airport while ensuring high security standards. Collaboration between Abu Dhabi Airports and the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship opens up new opportunities for aviation development and passenger service quality improvement.
