Step Back in Time at the Najd Al Meqsar Resort in Sharjah

Experience history like never before at the Najd Al Meqsar resort, located in the picturesque Khor Fakkan region of Sharjah. Nestled on a century-old site, this unique resort is built on the grounds of a historic village and offers a rare opportunity to stay in traditional homes that are more than 100 years old.

A Resort Like No Other: A Blend of History and Hospitality

The resort is set within the village of Najd Al Meqsar, where seven original Kareen Houses have been carefully converted into guest rooms. These traditional homes, constructed from clay and stone, have triangular palm frond roofs, preserving the authentic Emirati architectural style. The houses are arranged on the mountainside, providing stunning views of the sea.

Unlike conventional resorts, Najd Al Meqsar offers a back-to-basics experience with no elevators or swimming pools. Instead, guests can explore the surrounding natural beauty and historical landmarks on foot, such as the Al Meqsar Fortress—a mountain summit watchtower dating back almost three centuries.

A Glimpse into the Past: The History of Najd Al Meqsar

Najd Al Meqsar is much more than just a scenic retreat. Situated in the Wadi Shie area, this village is rich in historical significance. Archaeological findings, including rock carvings from the Iron Age, point to the area’s long-standing importance as a settlement. In ancient times, a local tribe built their homes near the water source, relying on an al falaj irrigation system.

During periods of heavy rainfall and natural disasters, the tribe moved to the safety of the mountain, where they constructed 13 homes, later forming the village we see today. The Al Meqsar Fortress was built to protect the settlement from threats, such as the Portuguese colonization. Now, only seven of these ancient homes remain standing, and they have been meticulously restored to serve as hotel rooms, offering an immersive cultural experience.

A Place for Reflection and Exploration

For guests looking to delve deeper into the region’s history, a hike up to the Al Meqsar Fortress and surrounding areas provides an incredible opportunity to explore the past while enjoying breathtaking views of Khor Fakkan. Additionally, another trail leads visitors to the Al Rafisah Dam, a spot known for its natural beauty and serene atmosphere.

Meals at the resort are served at Wishi Restaurant, located at the base of the mountain, offering visitors panoramic views of the stunning landscape.

The Vision Behind Najd Al Meqsar

The Najd Al Meqsar resort is part of the Sharjah Collection, a group of carefully curated properties managed by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq). The village’s restoration and transformation into a resort were made possible through the efforts of Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who issued a directive to restore significant historical sites in Khor Fakkan.

This includes not only Najd Al Meqsar but also the Khor Fakkan Fort, Al Adwani Tower, and other landmarks that have been brought back to life, preserving the rich heritage of the area for future generations.
