The Evolution of Global Village: From a Car Park to 17.2 Million Sq Ft Landmark
Global Village is more than just a theme park — it’s a cultural icon of Dubai. Over nearly three decades, it has transformed from a few kiosks in a parking lot into a 17.2 million square foot destination in Dubailand, showcasing cultures from over 90 countries.
Humble Beginnings at Dubai Creek
The journey began in 1996 as a seasonal pop-up event near Dubai Creek, part of the Dubai Shopping Festival. With just 10 country kiosks spread across 50,000 sq m, the park attracted 500,000 visitors — proving the immense appetite for cultural experiences in Dubai.
A Growing Attraction in Oud Metha
By 2001, the park had relocated to Oud Metha to accommodate larger crowds. It featured country pavilions with iconic global landmarks and drew 1.2 million visitors in one season. The infrastructure, however, couldn’t keep up with demand, and Global Village was once again on the move.
Expansion at Dubai Festival City
In 2004, Global Village moved to Dubai Festival City. With 31 country pavilions and 3.1 million visitors, the park had outgrown its temporary nature. Its popularity even caused traffic strain across the city, highlighting the need for a permanent location.
A Permanent Home in Dubailand
Since 2005, Global Village has operated from Dubailand — its largest and most advanced location to date. With a massive parking area for 15,000 vehicles, iconic rides, expanded food and retail zones, and 46 pavilions representing diverse cultures, the park has entered a new era.
Now in Season 29, Global Village offers 30 pavilions representing 90 cultures, a brand-new restaurant plaza, and countless attractions for families, tourists, and residents alike.
What This Means for Real Estate Investors
The development of large-scale attractions like Global Village directly boosts the value of surrounding real estate. Dubailand is now one of the most promising residential areas in Dubai, with increasing demand for both rental and owned properties.
